Sunburst Mirror

You can create an eye catching mirror with just a few simple materials! The craft sticks that make up the frame are taken up a notch with a coat of liquid gilding and arranged in a sunburst design. I think this will look perfect in an entryway--the mirrored surface and gold color working in harmony to open up and brighten the space all at once. Plus, it’s always nice to have a last minute mirror check before you head out the door!

Step-by-Step Tutorial

  1. Image or video
    Gather your materials.
  2. Image or video
Paint the craft sticks with liquid gilding. I found that because the sticks are raw wood, this took about two coats to get a good color. You don’t have to paint the entire stick, because part will be hidden behind the mirror.
  3. Image or video
With a pair of scissors, cut about half of the sticks in half. These will be used for the second layer.
  4. Image or video
Lay out your sticks in a pattern on the back of the mirror. I chose to place the first layer at alternating heights to create a sunburst look, then filled in the gaps with the shorter second layer. Glue them in place according to the instructions on the back of the E6000 tube.

Finally, glue down the gold macrame hoop. This will provide a lip on the back for you to hang the mirror from.

Once the glue has dried, hang your sunburst up to admire!
