Nail Polish Cabochon Ring

A nice manicure doesn’t last long if you’re a crafter—chips and broken nails just go with the territory if you make things with your hands. This tends to make me skip the nail polish entirely, which means I have a collection of beautiful colors I rarely use. This glittery cocktail ring project gave me the chance to use my nail polish to create something really fun and unique!

First, select your nail polish colors. To get the glitter gemstone look, pick two coordinating colors, one opaque and one glitter. Apply a coat of the opaque nail polish to the ring base. Let it dry for at least an hour, ideally more. When it’s completely dry, apply a second coat.

Then paint a coat of the glitter nail polish to the flat side of the cabochon. Just like with the ring base, let it dry and then apply a second coat. Let everything dry for at least a couple of hours before gluing your ring together.

Your ring is complete! I love that this technique works well with almost any combination of color. The muted purple and silver ended up looking classic and sophisticated, but the same ring done in bright red and pink glitter created a fun girly effect. Try it out and see what you come up with!
