Knitted Golf Club Cover

I love these chunky knitted golf covers because they give a personal touch to any golf bag. I think that they make a perfect gift for any golf lover, and they are quick to knit up so you can make multiples. You can adjust the size of the cover by simply adding more rows of yarn where the pattern indicates.

Cast on 22 stitches. I like to use the long-tail cast-on method. For this method, you need to start with a tail about 24 inches in length. Before knitting, make sure the ridge of the cast-on stitches is underneath the needles and not twisted around.

To create the ribbing, you will alternate between knitting one stitch and purling the next. This creates a stretchy fabric that can expand over the head of a golf club.

You will switch colors after one row of ribbing. Leave six inch tail of the first yarn and continue knitting with your new color. Don’t worry about the extra tails from the color changes—you will weave them back in at the end.

Continue to follow your pattern, switching colors and increasing where appropriate. You can adjust the size of your pattern for different sized golf clubs by adding or subtracting rows in the body section.

When you have knit the final row, cut your tail to 12 inches long. Using a darning needle, pull your tail through the last eight stitches twice. Tighten, and pull the yarn through to the inside of the cover.

Once your golf club cover has been knit, weave all of your yarn tails into the back of your knitting. I like to weave them in for about 3 inches. Trim the excess yarn off.
