Gold Wire Cake Topper

I love the look of hammered gold, so I was delighted to find an excuse to try out the technique to create a topper for a friend's wedding. The hammering really adds a lovely texture to the wire, and I think it's the perfect topper for a simple white cake. Of course it's simple to customize this piece with any word or phrase you like, so this project can work for almost any event!

Use the jewelry pliers to shape the wire, following the template. No need to worry about copying the design exactly— just use the template as a guide and shape the wire until you're happy with the results.

Your cake topper is ready to be placed on display! Anchor the ends of the wire into a food-safe base piece—you don't want the wire to touch the cake. I used a store-bought plastic topper and hid the wire with roses.

If you'd like the word to hang off of the edge of the cake, just trim off one end of the wire.
