Fringed Tissue Dessert Toppers

These little decorative toothpicks are a snap to make, and they add so much fun to the snack table at any gathering. Where it really turns into magic, though, is how easy it is to turn them into a custom cake topper. You can arrange them for a birthday as I’ve done here, a letter, or just a festive cluster. I love how quick and easy they are to customize to any color palette—all you need is some tissue paper!

Step-by-Step Tutorial

    Gather your materials and select your tissue paper colors.

    Cut a collection of 3”x1.5" pieces of tissue paper in a variety of colors.

    On each piece, cut a 1” fringed bottom along the long edge.

    Add a very conservative amount of glue to one of the fringed pieces of tissue. Layer the pieces of tissues for multi-colored effect or do them one at a time.

    Twist it around the plastic toothpick, and let dry.
